Ben Giroux · Recording engineer · Maryland

Your performance, recorded by a musician.

I record concerts, recitals, auditions and performance videos across Maryland, and run live audio and video for events. I trained at Peabody as both a percussionist and a recording engineer, so I hear your performance the way you do.

Services

What I record

Every project gets its own quote. These are the requests I get most often. If yours isn't here, ask anyway.

Concerts & recitals

Audio and video of your concert, captured at your venue. Setup happens before the audience arrives, and nothing gets in the way of the performance.

Ensembles · degree recitals · church concerts

Performance videos

A dedicated session for one piece or a full set. You get as many takes as you need, and I edit them into one finished, mixed and color-graded video.

Portfolio pieces · premieres · YouTube releases

Audition recordings

Recorded to the exact requirements of your audition, so the panel hears you and not the room. Billed hourly, with a discount for current students.

College & grad school · festivals · competitions

Editing & mixing

Already have a recording? I can clean up edits, balance levels, match takes and color the video. Surround and Dolby Atmos mixes are available on request.

Existing sessions · touch-ups · remixes

Podcasts

On-location or remote recording and editing. For remote shows I also train hosts and recommend affordable gear.

Interview shows · series · one-off episodes

Wedding video

Ceremony and reception filmed and edited, with clean audio of the vows, toasts and music.

Ceremonies · receptions

Not just percussion. I've recorded jazz, rock, pop, chamber music, orchestras and weddings.

Describe your project

Live Audio & Video

Great sound in the room and on the stream

I run live audio and video for church services, concerts and events. You get a clear mix in the room, a clean feed for the livestream, and a recording of the whole event if you want one. I'm the audio engineer at Bethany Church every week, so I know how to keep a live event running smoothly without the tech becoming the story.

Booking

From first message to final files

Recordings are booked and paid directly with me. There's no one-size price list, because no two projects need the same time, gear or editing.

  1. Step 1

    Tell me the plan

Send the date, the venue, what's being performed and whether you need video. I reply within 24–48 hours.

  2. Step 2

    Get an estimate

I send a quote based on time, number of cameras, travel and how much editing and mixing you want.

  3. Step 3

    Record

I arrive early, set up quietly and stay out of the way so you can focus on playing.

  4. Step 4

    Edit & deliver

You review the edit and request changes, then receive finished files ready to post, submit or share.

Questions

Before you ask

How much do you charge?
Each project gets its own estimate, based on the time it takes from setup to delivery, single- or multi-camera video, travel, and how involved you want me in editing and mixing. I keep rates as low as each project allows. Send the details and I'll reply with a quote.
How long until I get my recording?
Most projects are delivered about two weeks after the session. If you have a hard deadline, like an audition submission date, tell me when you reach out and we'll plan around it.
Where are you based, and do you travel?
I'm in Howard County, Maryland, between Baltimore and Washington. I travel to venues around the state, and travel time is part of the estimate.
Do you only record percussion?
No. Percussion is my instrument and a favorite to record, but I've also recorded jazz, rock, pop, chamber music, orchestras, weddings and podcasts.
My project doesn't fit any of these services.
The service list is a starting point. Tell me what you need and I'll work out an approach that fits.
Do you teach lessons too?
Yes. I teach Percussion and Piano through Bethany Music Center in Ellicott City, and all lesson scheduling and payment goes through them. See Private Lessons.

About

Musician first, then engineer

I started playing percussion as a kid and never stopped. At the Peabody Institute I double-majored in Percussion Performance and Recording Arts and Sciences, taught myself video along the way, and finished a master's in Percussion Performance in 2024.

That background shapes how I work. A recording should do more than document an event; it should help listeners hear what made the performance special. Because I'm a performer too, I know which takes you'll be proud of and which details matter in the mix.
